This 5-cent coin, issued by the US Mint between 1913 and 1938, is known as the Buffalo nickel, Bison nickel, or the Indian Head nickel. The profile on the obverse of the coin, by designer James E. Fraser, was compiled from the heads of three Native Americans that President Roosevelt is said to have visited. The reverse is dominated by a magnificent American Bison.
